I used to have good manners, but that’s disappeared over the years. Or was I simply a very timid child? Didn’t want to get into trouble? Been losing my patience more and more?
The major is demonstrating something that more military should pay attention to these days — it’s an order, follow it. Then again, no military ever follows orders, especially when it’s something they don’t think is right. Some years ago, as a nod to camouflage, the Bundeswehr tried to issue brown boots to its soldiers and they just covered ‘em up with black shoe polish. Any soldier can tell you that fashion comes first; how does the troop attract the girls without the looks? Which is the point of the exercise, so to speak, in any society.
