So many great comments! Amy: wait until issue #29, when Lee shows up as one of the characters -- in all her land-on-her-feet glory. Meloday: The silly t-shirts came out in ... 84? No, it wasn't inspired by AIDS. It was inspired by a silly pun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Desert_Peach). But -- since my brain is usually working on me behind the scenes, it must have been poking me about somethig more important. It usually gets my attention by the sweet or silly or sad. Then once it has me, it pounces and brings on the hard stuff. Kind of like what I do to my readers.

Oh ! This is wonderful! I have done my darnedest to find all of the out of print issues of "the Desert Peach", but I think I am still missing a couple. This will fill in voids, and help me figure out which I am missing.

Desert peach started in 1986? I thought it was older than that! Now I am wondering...the biggest topic of conversation among our friends in those days was AIDS. Suddenly the world was actually paying attention to the real broken hearts and lives this left in the gay world. Us meat headed straight folks never thought about it before, I guess. Did AIDS have anything to do with the idea for the Dessert Peach?

AH! The Peach in his glorious self on the web. This is wonderful. I still tell the story about Lee of Lee's Comics who couldn't figure out for the longest time why some of his more "intelligent" customers were so enamored of this strange comic book. Until he finally sat down one day and started reading it for himself—and became an instant Donna Barr promoter!
