There was no internet when I originally painted this book. It wasn’t that hard to find photographs of German subs, but it was strangely difficult to find illustrations of American submarines. The ladies at the Naval Museum of the Pacific, in Bremerton, Washington, were very helpful, digging up old photographs of American subs. Ta, ladies!

That reminds me of incidents in the war-books of Spike Milligan. Naughty sailors, floating on their backs….
