Ah, yes, homophobia raises its ugly — and tiny — heads. The first few issues were written as pure fluff, with all that involves. As I later admitted, the thing I was tickling the readers with was the point of a dagger — which I would begin to put pressure on and, by issue 13, I would shove in to the hilt.
Later backstories — which show Udo responding in a much more accepting way while still in Europe — didn’t quite fit, but Udo has told me that he was only responding to the humiliation he was being subjected to when the Peach’s unit was first formed in North Africa. Udo can be very helpful backstage.

As soon as I saw the Peach, I was vividly reminded of another WWII German guy. Anyway, here’s what appears to be his straight alter ego: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/u64/3c_1_b.jpg U-boat commander Joachim Schepke, said to be the best-looking officer in the Kriegsmarine.
And as a token of my ignorance, I took it as Doberman saying he’d rather have Udo angry at him than the Colonel … relative power and all that.
The Colonel WAAAAY outranks Udo, and of course Dobermann has proper Military Fear. It’s drummed into ‘em in basic training.
Leave it to blackcatx3 to find the good-looking and nomlish ones (I like that word. I’m spreading it).
